Who will be
the best coffee nation 2009?
In Cologne in June the SCAE will find the BEST COFFEE NATION. Not who is the best nation to plant, grow, harvest and process quality coffee, but what nation is the best to take best care of the coffee after that.
To find out is simple:
We add the results from the 5 World Championships, the World Latte Art Championship (WLAC), the World Barista Championship (WBC), the World Cup Tasters Championship (WCTC), the World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship (WCSC) and the World Cezve Ibrik Championship (WCIC). This implies that the winning nation in e.g. Latte Art gets a score of 1, number 2 gets 2 and so on, similar for the other competitions. So to participate a nation needs to be in all 5 competitions.
The first scores will be ready already at the WBC in Atalanta, the rest will follow on a daily base in Cologne from 26th to 28th June 2009. Results we be published each day at the entrance to the hall so everyone can follow the successes or failures of the individual nation, and cheer and support their favourite as the competitions unfold. The Best Nation will be decided and the trophy handed over on the last day of the Cologne event, after the last competition which is the World Cup Tasters Championship on Sunday.
New this year is that we added the World Cezve Ibrik Competition, and there are a few nations that would need to find a good competitor for that special event. It definitely can be done as both UK Belgium and Denmark did well last year.
In 2006 the trophy was won by the UK, while in 2007 the trophy travelled to Iceland. In 2008 it remained in Copenhagen as the home nation also was best nation. In Copenhagen both Greece and South Korea was in the lead at some stages, and Australia would undoubtedly have won if they had had a full team. The trophy to the winner is held one year at the time, and Denmark will send a very strong team to ensure that the best nation shield remains in Denmark .
The individual nations do not have to enter the »Best nation« competition.
As long as you take part in all 5 competitions you are in.
See you in Cologne!
